(Edited with new picture, because dat kinja crop) Does anyone here know what it would take to import this to ’murica? If it’s even possible? Seriously. I will look into this if it can be done legally. I let the wife get a cat, even though I’ve been saying no for years, so I figure if I get this that will make us even right?

Doubtful since it’s not 25 years old just yet.

That’s what I figured. But it’s not as if C43’s weren’t sold here. They just weren’t sold here as wagons. And as far as I know the Canadian version is “pretty much” identical. ¯\_()_/¯

Well the 1994-1999 C Class is importable, so a strong maybe.

But how? They’re not 25 years old. Is there an approved list somewhere?

Scroll down to “What vehicles can be imported?” and click “Non-conforming vehicles eligible for importation”. It’s a PDF of all vehicles that are less than 25 years old, but can be imported by a RI.

It will be extremely difficult to get it into the US. And it will be downright impossible to do so Legally. Also, nearly identical and identical are two completely different things in the eyes of the government.

Sometime manufacturers will certify. Sometimes owners will apply and get approved via ‘substantial similarity’ (or something like that). Still a dice toss at getting registered, but since C-class is on there for the time period I don’t think you’d be at any risk of seizure. I'd read the actual approval docket first to make sure there aren't any exceptions built in though if you're really contemplating it. There'll be a list of stuff that has to get changed in there as well (common examples are dashboard warning lights, speedometer to mph, side markers, bumpers, etc.)
